  • About Me

    To Whom It May Concern,
I am a soon to be McGill Undergrad student, moving to Montreal for the Summer to get to know the city before school starts. Friendly, energetic and hard working, I adapt quickly to new environments, therefor I believe I would be a great addition to any child care service.
Despite being 19 years old, I grew up in South Africa, Thailand Germany, England and New York before emoting to Vancouver 4 years ago. Consequently, I am mature for my age and this coupled with my childcare experience makes me capable.
I have experience working at a special needs summer camp, after school day care program as well as a "loose the training Wheels" training camp. I really enjoy using my leadership skills when I am either motivating or organizing. I motivated others when I was doing the special needs bicycle summer camp. There the kids attention span was so short we had to break down their hour of cycling into smaller goals, using stickers reward and music to excite. I also used play locks to have a visual representation of time and make the abstract concept more tangible. This experience taught me how to accept children for their individual capabilities and find joy in the process children learning.
Overall, I understand that caretakers have to be healthy role models. They need to maintain a holistic sense of several children's needs simultaneously while building relationships with the individual child and addressing their specific requirements. In addition they need to be a balance between fun, relaxed and continually reinforcing the values the parents use to raise their children.
    Specifically my guiding principals are:
    1. Clean up the mess you make
    2. Speak kindly to one another
    3. Have fun together
Additionally, as a peer-to-peer counsellor in high school, I believe during my time at a boarding school living with 50 other girls I truly understand that complex dynamics between a group of adolescents. This has developed my mentoring and tutoring abilities through the improvement of my empathy and listening skills.
Furthermore, having spent a year traveling in Europe and Asia alone, I have come to understand the full meaning of being responsible for yourself and others. I place great value on being honest about mistakes. I am upfront about my short comings and always try to do my best. Energetic and passionate I do my best to infuse others with a joy for whatever activity we are engaged in.
The compliment I am most proud of to receive from others is that I take time for people and pay attention to the little ways in which I can brighten up or lighten up the work load of those around me..
The phone number of my child related job experiences are attached in the references section of my CV.
Hope to hear from you soon,
    Pascale
