Hello,
My name is Melanie. I am 25 years old. I have recently relocated to Montreal from Toronto, hoping to improve my French while I am here. I have a lot of experience working with children. I completed the Leader in Training and Counsellor in Training programs with the Town of Aurora, Ontario in high school. This required over 100 hours of volunteer work at various summer day camp programs, working with different age groups, from as young as 3 to as old at 14.
From there, I went on to work for a summer camp in the town of Newmarket, Ontario called Well-Rounded Kids. This camp intended to emphasize a balance between recreation and literacy during the summer months away from school. Aside from sports and other outdoor activities, the children would spend at least an hour each day working on their reading and writing skills one-on-one with a trained teacher.
More recently, this past year I volunteered with the Geneva Centre for Autism at their Toronto Partnership for Autism Services (TPAS) location in Etobikoke, alongside their Intensive Behavioural Intervention (IBI) team. Here I was able to gain valuable experience working with children with Austism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) between the ages of 3 and 7 as they received intensive therapy in aims of preparing them to attend full-time school. I was able to witness first-hand the challenges associated with managing children with ASD as well as the benefits of intense, focussed programming towards effectively integrating children with ASD into the conventional education system.
I am a self-motivated, hard-working individual. I am fun, creative, and energetic. In my non-working time, I am often engaged in creative projects. I am also an avid cyclist and runner. I am currently training to run my first marathon this Spring.
