Hello future employers. My name is Leanna and I am a very experienced as a childcare worker.
I firstly became very interested in the field of childcare at the age of fourteen when I regularly worked as a babysitter.
I started as a summer counselor at age sixteen for the City of Cote St. Luc. I worked with the preschoolers for two (2) consecutive summers.
I also worked as a special needs companion for a 15 year old girl with downs syndrome for two (2) consecutive summers at the B'nai Brith sleep away camp. The young girl I shadowed, who was non verbal, communicated through hand gestures and single word ASL. These two (2) years of shadowing reinforced my passion as a childcare worker.
As well, I have done volunteer work at the NDG YMCA in the after school program. I worked with a group of 30 integrated children from grades 1 to 6. This group consisted of children with special needs, as well as regular public school children.
I started with the Westmount YMCA in their summer program as an arts and crafts specialist for all the age groups. Because of the diversity of ages, I was required to create different activities according to the different age groups. There were also special needs children at this summer camp, and it was also my duty to create activities for these children.
This lead to full time employment with the Westmount YMCA consisted of the following duties:
Before school program, right play program at lunch time (ie prevent bullying in school yard), the after school program, preschool sub, mommy and me sub, weekend birthday parties, and preschool coordinator temp.
In summary, I am organized and meticulous. I believe children require schedules and weekly activity planning. I like to give positive feedback and reinforcement. I am known to have a compassionate and strong nurturing side, which has helped me to develop bonding relationships with many of the children I have worked with.
Hobbies and Interests:
Cooking, baking, arts and crafts, poetry, creative writing.
I am also an avid reader of books concerning economics, behavioral economics, autobiographies.
I am an animal lover.
I am compassionate and good at problem solving.
