My name is Kaitlyn and am currently a 21 year old nursing student at the University of Western Ontario who will be residing in Medicine Hat for the months May- August. I love being active with outdoor sports or activities, and thrive off of new challenges and meeting new people. I am an enthusiastic individual who has great experience working in childcare/special needs with with a unique set of skills that have been enhanced over numerous years of respite care work based around having a sister with autism. Learning to care for and understand my sister at an incredibly young age has allowed me to develop incredible patience, acceptance of diversity, and a willingness to always go the extra mile when dealing with people and complex circumstances. The experience gained from growing up with a sister with autism has led to various other job opportunities of respite care work and allowed me to embrace any situation with a gentle and confident nature which include: respite care work through a company (VON) for a young autistic boy as well as his younger sister. We worked on things such as crafts, outdoor activities, schooling, housework etc. I also had the opportunity to work at a summer, family-oriented camp with two different positions. For one year I worked as a JK/SK co-ordinator and the second year I was asked to come back as a special needs worker. In this position I was assigned to work with a child one on one for however many weeks they stayed at the camp with developmental disorders that ranged from ADD, anger manager, autism, down syndrome etc. I have a passion for those with special needs, accompanied with child care of any sort.
