Hello! My name is Jenika.

Since 2010 I have worked in every childcare arena I can possibly think of! I have been a nanny, worked in a dayhome as well as a daycare facility and I have been a substitute dayhome director and preschool teacher. I explored and experienced so much over the last 6 years that I now know that working with one family as a nanny is what I truly want.

In childcare centres, be that dayhome or daycare, there was a definite limit to how much time and energy I could invest into each child's needs and I was not allowed or able to be present with a child if they were having a hard time. Sometimes one-on-one attention is needed or a different approach to a situation than what was standard procedure and, in these arenas, it was impossible for me to do that. It broke my heart every single day to see the effect this had on the kids. There is only so much you can do for a child when your hands are bound by policies and standards. I believe children need their own parents but since that is not always possible, the next best thing is to have a loved, trusted and dependable nanny. Someone who can really interact with your children and respond to them in the unique ways they operate. Someone who has the time, patience and energy to love, respect and really listen to your children. And above all, someone who really wants to do those things!

That's where I come in :)

I don't believe in yelling at children, hitting them or harsh punishments and consequences. I believe in taking the time figure out and understand the reason behind a child's tantrum, outburst or perceived misbehaviour to help them process and understand their emotions and how to manage themselves in healthy ways. This isn't something I went to school for.

I have reflected on all of my experiences and come to the understanding that you can not learn about children from a book or course. That's why I don't have any formal training or schooling. All of my knowledge comes from experiencing people and children and my own research into discovering what kind of parent I want to be. I have grown a lot over the years; I started as a 19 year old nanny, just blindly repeating how I was raised with the kids I took care of, to a compassionate, patient 26 year old wife preparing for her own family. And since I don't know when I will become a mom, I hope you'll allow me the honour of making a positive impact in your kids' lives and give me the opportunity to make your life easier and more peaceful, knowing your babies are with someone who really cares about them.

A little bit more about me:
I am plant-based (I will not cook or serve meat or eggs but am open to including dairy if necessary). I do not drive, drink or smoke and I don't like the zoo. I love books, angels, faeries, being outside, being creative and going on adventures! I am first aide certified, I am looking for immediate, full-time work and I am available weekdays between 7am - 5:30pm, depending on how far we live from one another (I'm in Country Hills!). Also, since I have been out of work this year due to health issues (that are all gone now!) and haven't worked with a private family in a few years, I no longer have any family's references. You are more than welcome to request character references though, as I have many :).
