About Me
When I was fifteen years old I started on my journey of working with youth as a Camp Councillor and Special Needs Councillor up in Muskoka. In the five years that I spent working there, I not only fuelled the lifelong passion I have had to work with children, but came to realize that working with youth is something I am interested and currently working towards devoting my life to. Having the opportunities and experiences I have had of working with children who require various levels of support and guidance, from learning to tie shoes to needing assistance eating, I have come to not only appreciate, but find a deep joy in the unique struggles and strengths of those I have had the pleasure to meet. In addition to this, I have worked, spent time with and built long-lasting and trusting relationships with children with various special needs- including, but not limited to, non-verbal and verbal children with Down Syndrome, Autism, OCD, ADD, ADHD, Narcolepsy, Asperger's Syndrome, Anxiety disorders, Depression, spinal cord injuries and Tourette's Syndrome. Further, I have spent time volunteering closely with the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Hospital for Sick Children and Toronto Rehab. My passion in life is to help people find and develop both their strengths and weaknesses, as well as ing a companion and person of trust. I am currently finishing my Undergraduate Degree in Sociology at The University of Toronto. My hope is that with this Undergraduate Degree I can pursue a Masters in Social Work with a focus on at-risk youth. In my years of working with children, I have developed a feeling of joy in showing patience and love in tough and tricky situations, and I hope to find a loving family who's children I can help and stand alongside as they develop, grow and learn.
