About Me
A native Scottish girl, I moved to Canada two years ago to live, work, and follow my dreams.
I am a qualified Modern Foreign language teacher, classically trained in French, Spanish, German and English to students of all ages.
After spending 2 years at the University of the West of Scotland, I moved to France for 2 years. Whilst living in France I taught at a high school, Lycee George Sands, near Bordeaux, and I also completed 1 year of study at the University of Toulon. I then returned to Scotland to complete my degree, graduating with a BA in French and Spanish. The year after, I took my Undergraduate Diploma in Education, where I received formal training in the Education sector.
During my time studying, I also spent 6 weeks in Barcelona, Spain, as a live in AuPair to a 10 year old Catalan girl. I looked after her as well as performed cleaning and cooking duties in their home.
After my studies I took up teaching full time, and evenings and weekends I taught at a private establishment. It was called the Language Hub and I was able to gain experience teaching children (6 months – 6 years) French and Spanish.
At the age of 15, my baby sister was born, and so I gained valuable experience with babies, changing nappies, and creating fun activities. By the time I finished high school, Emily was starting Primary School and so I had so much free time to take her to school and collect her for my mum, I was able to help more around the house, I did her homework with her every evening. We were inseparable. The lessons I learned whilst caring so much for my younger sister have had a massive impact on the person I have become today.
In addition, each Saturday I volunteered at the local Church that I attended and took part in leading the youth club there. Most Sundays I assisted in coaching Cheerleading, as I was part of a competitive Cheer Squad. Working with young children, boys and girls, in this setting and environment was an incredible experience and I am appreciative of the time I spent there.
Since moving to Canada, I have been questioning my desire to teach in a school. most of my adult life was centred around ‘babysitting’, and teaching much younger children on a more ‘one-to-one’ basis. I have been working in an office, 8-5, every weekday for the past 2 years. I would absolutely love to make my life’s purpose once again caring for people. I am open-minded regarding the family circumstance – each family is different.
Ideally I would prefer to ‘live out’, whilst making a full commitment to the family I work for.. at the same time maintaining a decent work life balance for myself.
