About Me
Hello, My name is Carmella. I am a Dalhousie English student and would love to work for you! I am extremely passionate about working with children and after the required schooling, I am perusing work in the field of education. I am an active, energetic caregiver with a passion for music and arts.
I am extremely energetic and highly motivated. I love being outside and being around nature. I am very passionate about music and art and spend my free time writing, playing violin, and doing visual art. I am very fun and love to play with kids. I am not afraid to get dirty and I like to be challenged and take risks. I am very punctual and reliable and always take safety precautions. Since all of my work experience has been with kids and parents I am very approachable, kind, patient and happy to help. I am a very positive person and like to think that my positivity is contagious and can make people happy as well. I love being around people and am very personable. My work ethic matched with my happy attitude makes me a perfect fit for being a caregiver.
I believe that creating a space where children can feel safe, comfortable to be themselves and pushed to fulfill all of their potential is vital in their growth. Whenever I work in settings with children, I try my hardest to not only be their friend but also their mentor. I believe finding balance between those two aspects is very important. I just finished working as a before and after school care provider at Inglis Elementary school in Halifax, Nova Scotia. I designed active based programming while integrating arts, music and drama into the ‘curriculum’.
I also teach violin lessons part time as I have been playing classical music since I was 4 years old. Previous to this job, I worked as a before and after school program coordinator in Cole Harbor, Nova Scotia. The staff and I worked as a team to implement programs that allowed the children to excel in their interests while still being challenged. An example of this was when I initiated a theater club. The children wrote a script themselves with supervision. Having the freedom and responsibility to write their own script was very exciting for them while also encouraging them to keep improving their literacy skills.
In Guelph, Ontario at Waverly Public School, I worked with children from 4-12 years of age. I was responsible for creating fun, active, and art geared programs to appeal to all of the children's passions. I worked to establish relationships with each child while working to motivate them to make new friends and try new activities.
My passion for working with children originated from working as a swimming instructor for three years at Victor Davis Pool in Guelph, Ontario. Teaching swimming lessons taught me how to change and shape lesson plans to appeal to every learner in the class. It was very exciting to find new creative ways to teach basic skills and watch the students improve every week. Instructing also taught me to have safety ingrained in my teaching technique. Through teaching swimming lessons, I received all of my first aid training and eventually became a certified national lifeguard. I believe that my experience working with children in many different contexts and my training in providing a safe environment has allowed me to be qualified and ready to be part of your team!- Education: Undergraduate degree
