About Me
Hi There Moms and Dads.
I am Kristen, a fun loving, super friendly and very caring 30 year old who would like nothing more than to lavish lots of love on your little ones. I absolutely adore children, and nothing makes me happier than to see them grow and develop in new experiences. I place a high value on education (I myself hold multiple degrees - but more on that later ;) ) and I just love taking any and all opportunities throughout the day to add in some fun learning, often without the kids even knowing it. Cooking or baking is a lesson in chemistry (or for babies and toddlers working on fine motor skills, language identification), going to the grocery store is a lesson in numeracy (for babies and toddlers shapes, colours, counting), or a walk around the neighbourhood is a lesson in local flora and fauna (for babies and toddlers language identification, colours, shapes). I really enjoy planning fun activities, like going to the zoo, swimming, fishing, nature hikes, picnics, and when in doubt, heading to the neighbourhood playground. Although a movie can sometimes be nice on a rainy afternoon, I really like to focus on interactive play, no matter what the age.
Now to some specifics about me. I have just moved to Calgary to join my wonderful fiancee (I am from Ontario) and after much careful thought I am embarking on a pretty major career switch. For the past several years I have been in extremely stressful jobs - first as director of an events centre, where I was on call literally 24hours a day, and then as a project manager for a construction company where I often worked 7 days a week… I have no doubt many of you can relate. Although I have always been a babysitter, from my early teens all the way through undergrad, I never really considered childcare as a career… Fast forward to today and I am currently looking after 14 month old twin boys, taking them out on excursions twice a week, and I am loving every minute.
This is definitely not my first experience with twins, however, since my wonderful older brother had twin girls, and 6 years ago I quit my job to move in with his amazing wife while he was deployed in afghanistan - they were only 2 weeks old. And just a few months ago I took a leave of absence to move in with them again after yet another deployment, in order to their look after 16 month old little boy and the twins (now 6) before and after school.
What I am looking for:
2-3 days a week, ( I currently work from 9am-1pm tuesdays and thursdays, but my current employer is very flexible and willing to switch days around).
My focus is first and foremost on the kids rather than on housework, but we always clean up after ourselves, take baths if necessary (finger painting with toddlers is a full body experience, lol. ) and I cook nutritious meals with lots of fruits and veggies. I am not opposed to a few loads of laundry to help mama out though.
I am also available for the occasional evening and or weekend (if mom and dad need a night out. )
or if you would like to plan a romantic weekend away, I could certainly move in for the weekend if given enough notice :)
I had criminal record check done for some volunteer work with the YMCA about a year ago if that works for you, and I hold a valid drivers licence as well as have a vehicle, but I share it with my fiancee so I don't get it everyday, we take turns.
My current hourly pay is $22/h- Education: Undergraduate degree
