I am a caregiver by nature and feel happiest when I am helping other people. I have always had a natural ability to connect with children, and get a lot of joy from interacting and being around kids. I have recently concluded my full time work as a nanny for a family of 3 kids, the youngest now beginning full time jk. I provide a very structured routine and encourage children's developmental, intellectual and creative growth through many activities such as community outings, crafts (I love crafts!), music, lots of outdoor play, libraries, early years centres, and also the simple day-to-day life skills (such as cleaning up toys, clearing dishes from the table, learning to dress independently, packing / unpacking school bags, helping with grocery shopping, etc. ) I believe in involving children in normalized daily life activities (as appropriate to their ages and abilities) as a way for them to experience teamwork, learn to follow step-by-step direction, and build self-esteem. My previous professional experience has been with seniors, particularly individuals with various stages of dementia. This experience has helped me further develop my communication skills, a great capacity of patience, and the importance of living in the moment. I received training in Montessori-based programs for people with dementia, and strongly support the Montessori Method in providing activities for seniors and children alike. I enjoy teaching children about the world around them and encourage them to explore concepts and ask questions. I believe kids are most content and successful when they have a consistent routine, and would be considerate to the daily routine and discipline practices that you have established for your family. I find that providing children with reasonable choices as much as possible can help avoid conflicts and give kids a sense of ownership for themselves in a world where they are so often just told what to do.
