About Me
I am a recent graduate from UBC where I studied Speech Sciences; the pre-requisite to becoming a Speech and Language Pathologist. A lot of my focus was on cognitive and linguistic development for infants and children. I have been babysitting ever since I was 12 years old. I am currently 23 and thoroughly enjoy cooking and baking, especially sourdough bread and fresh pasta. Before Covid I taught my 3-year-old niece how to make crêpes and it was such a special memory as I enjoyed being involved in the kitchen growing up. I also take pride in cleaning and more than happy to include this skill in my duties.
While most of my babysitting experience has been for family and friends, I have specific experience working alongside kids with special needs and adults with communication difficulties. This has taught me a lot about understanding behaviours and ensuring communicative needs are met.
I was a recreation worker for Delta Life-skills Society’s Summer Fun program, which provides life skills, respite care and behavioural management in a supportive and fun environment, for three years. During that time I also worked one on one with adolescents outside Summer Fun or who aren’t apart of the program as a respite care or life skills worker. I also volunteered at GF strong rehabilitation centre in the speech therapy program for four years. My previous experiences have made me a very supportive, enthusiastic and attentive caregiver. Working alongside these kids and adults with varying needs has had its challenges, but I pride myself on trying to bring as much joy and excitement to our day as possible.
I myself am a very upbeat positive person and love cooking, gardening and hiking. I am currently living in East Van but I do have a car and am flexible.
I do understand this stressful time period with Covid and am being very careful myself. I would love to work with a family that would also ensure everyone’s safety as per Dr. Bonnie’s recommendations.
